Happy Halloween!

Yay for Halloween! I was originally going to make the girls' costumes out of cardboard, but it's a good thing that I didn't because I don't think the cardboard would have lasted through all FOUR Halloween events that they got to wear their costumes to. What spoiled kids I have.
So here they are, Cookie Monster and his cookies :-)This was taken in front of our homemade scarecrow, but we took it before trick-or-treating and I think the girls didn't want to pose for a picture, they just wanted to go get their candy. The scarecrow looked even better before the windstorm that we had a few days after we put him up.

Softball Season

David plays softball every year in Longmont. Twice this year, once in the summer league and once in the Fall league, David's team won first place! The kids really like to go watch Daddy play softball, and even Elijah stands by the fence and claps. I think David likes hearing "Go Daddy! Yay Daddy!" from the stands. Now that softball is over for the year, David and Jason are talking about when they are going to go snowboarding.

Sorry the pictures are so dark. He played at night for this game, and David's not home right now to edit the pictures for me, but these were my two favorite pictures of him playing so I decided to post them anyway.

Field Trip to the Firehouse

The Tuesday before Halloween the girls went to the Firehouse for preschool. For some unknown reason, Katie got TERRIFIED when we got inside the big garage with the firetrucks. So I guess it's a good thing that I tagged along or someone else would have had to hold her while she screamed "I want to go home!"

Before we went to the firetrucks, "Fireman Hector" gave us a tour of where the firemen hang out between emergencies. Apparently the bathroom was the coolest thing ever. I guess I wouldn't mind having a bathroom with a shower that's larger than one entire bathroom in our house. Then came the firetrucks. Here you can see how happy Katie was to be there. Mrs. Shiela, the preschool teacher, decided to try on a fireman's outfit. They said that everything all together weighs 70 plus pounds. It was a long morning and this is the best we could do at getting a picture of all the kids in front of the firetruck.

Long overdue

Elijah has needed his first haircut for several months now, and tonight we finally got around to it. Here is what he looked like before:
I talked David into giving him the haircut, because I was too afraid of messing up. So, Daddy put Elijah's chair in front of the TV and the boys watched baseball together while Elijah got his hair cut.And the finished product. David did a great job. When the haircut was all over, Elijah joined the girls in his bedroom. I got a monitor for free at a yard sale I helped out at yesterday, so David put together a computer for the girls to use. They like playing the "Cookie Monster" game, and Elijah enjoys watching.

HAY IS FOR HORSES

Today was field trip day for preschool. We went to a horse farm, and then to the park to play. Here are some pictures of the horses.

This one is of Katie feeding a carrot to a mini-horse. She is the one to the very right of the picture (you can see her profile).
Katie feeding hay to another horse:

Getting a little side-tracked. One of the kids spotted a rabbit out in the field, so everyone had to go investigate. When all the "big kids" got out of the way, Elijah tried his hand at feeding the horses. There was a big wall of hay, and he would pull some out, then walk over to the horses and offer it to them. Then the preschool class had to get into the horse trailer for a picture. Boy did their shoes smell good after this :-)Afterwards we all went to the park for snack time, and to get out some energy. Katie was being a good big sister, and she liked helping Elijah go down the slide. The picture is kind of small, but they both have huge smiles on their faces (and Elijah let out a huge squeal).Cailin was there the whole day, too. She is in the group pictures, but she didn't give me as many chances to get her picture as Katie did (nor did she demand that I take her picture like Katie did).

Calling all creative minds!

I called the vet today to set up an appointment for our male bunny to be neutered, and felt like a big nerd when she asked "What is the bunny's name?" and my response was "He doesn't have one."

I need help naming my bunnies. After all, they are 4 1/2 months old now, I guess they deserve names. We have one boy and one girl. The boy is solid black, and the girl is mostly black with one white front paw and some white down her chest/neck area. Here's a picture of them:For some reason I really stress out when it comes to naming stuff. For pets I like creative names, but not names that get too common, and are completely based on what the animal looks like, like "Spot" or "Socks." Sorry if I just insulted any readers :-) Any ideas?

If I stress out this much about naming pets, how on earth are we ever going to come up with another child's name by April?

More Airshow Pictures

My dad sent me more airshow pictures, so I thought I'd post one of the "truck with the big fire" that the girls hated, but can't seem to stop talking about.

This act we watched while standing in the grass outside the airport waiting for my mom to come pick up the kids. The girls kept saying "Mom! She needs to get down before she falls!"And finally one with me and my awesome little brothers and sister. Apparently my dad gets a picture of the kids by this plane at every airshow. This was after the airshow was over, so my kiddos weren't there anymore.

Airshow!

The last weekend in September I went home to Grand Junction for the airshow. I have been attending airshows with my airplane-crazy dad my entire life, so I was excited to get a chance to stick to the tradition. I brought the kids along, and they had a lot of fun, until the truck with the jet engine attached started up. The kids did NOT like the noise, or the big fire, and that's when we had to call Grandma to come get them.

I cannot take credit for these pictures. I didn't bring my camera to the airshow, so these are all pictures that my dad took.

Thanks for letting me tag along again this year Daddy! I had a lot of fun.

Fun Outdoors

Yay for growing grass! Last night when the sprinklers were running the girls discovered how fun it was to run through them. I can't wait for next year when we have nice thick grass all summer!
Elijah stood on the porch to watch the girls and laughed at them and clapped. Then we went out back to the garden to pick some corn for dinner. Here is my modest and semi-successful garden. The girls really enjoyed their corn.

A Day at the Zoo!

Thursday they replaced our roof from the hail storm a few months ago. I didn't want to stay at home all day with the noise, so the kids and I went to the zoo. We met my sister Carrie and her son Oliver there, but they could only stay for a little while.

Katie took this picture of "Nemo."Elijah spent most of the day in a carrier on my front, and he loved all the animals. I took him out of the carrier for this picture, and all of a sudden he no longer liked the "big lizard." Katie had to keep him from running away long enough for me to get this picture.

David's trip to Pennsylvania

A couple weeks ago David went to Philadelphia for a week for work. Here are some pictures he brought back. David was told that Geno's was the best place to go for the Philly cheese steak, so he went to try it out. He said the most popular sandwich ordered is with Cheese-Whiz and onions. To order it you say "Philly Whiz wit."David also had a chance to go to a Phillies game while he was there. Here are some pictures from that. He went to the game on September 11th, and they brought out a huge flag (David counted 90+ people holding it).

The scoreboard. And finally, the car that he followed out of the Phillies parking lot. The license plate reads "BUD LITE"

Silly Little Man

So here's another post without any pictures - sorry. Elijah has been so funny lately. He isn't talking a ton (the two things you hear out of his mouth lately are "HI!" and "Uh-Oh!"), but he does understand really well. Today he had stinky pants and so he brought me a diaper. I said "thank you, lay down now," and he did. Then, when I was done changing his diaper I said "Ok, now it's nap time. Let's go to your bedroom for bed." He pointed to his room, and I nodded, then he walked into his room and waited for me to lift him into his crib. Funny little man. I like it when he obeys :-)

Boosting Mommy's Self-Esteem

So the girls are sometimes really good at making me feel good about myself. Take for instance the other night when I was getting the girls ready for their bath. Cailin and Katie were standing in the bathroom (naked) and Katie says: "Cailin, our bums are getting big! We are going to have BIG bums like Mommy!!"

Leslie's Wedding

This past weekend David's youngest sister Leslie got married in Grand Junction. Cailin and Katie were the flower girls. By the time the wedding started Cailin was very warn out and all she wanted was cake. This is about the best picture David was able to get of her.
Here are some pictures of Katie. One is with her handsome Daddy (wearing the headband that Cailin was refusing to wear) and one is with David's dad.

Elijah didn't have a part in the wedding, but I still have to put in a picture of my little man.and finally a picture of the happy couple. Good luck with everything, Leslie and Chris!

Preschool

Last week the girls started preschool. They go twice a week to a house about two blocks from our house. They have so much fun there, and Elijah enjoys two and a half hours home alone with Mommy.

Window Pets

Meet "Checky," our newest window pet that showed up in one of our basement windows. David wants to get an aquarium and keep him. Cailin named him, but I have no idea how she came up with the name.
We also have one larger frog and three baby frogs in the same window with Checky. The large one likes to hang out at the window. Here they were just chillin' last night.
